DeployFest 2026 at a Glance

DeployFest 2026 is GDG Cloud Bengaluru's flagship single-day buildathon, bringing together some of India's most talented developers for an intense day of building, deploying, and pitching on Google Cloud.

Here are the essentials:

  • **Date:** Saturday, May 23, 2026
  • **Time:** 9:00 AM — 8:00 PM (11 hours, 7-hour build window)
  • **Venue:** Deutsche Bank, Electronic City Phase I, Bengaluru 560100
  • **Team Size:** 4 members per team
  • **Cost:** Free for selected developers
  • **Prize Pool:** ₹1,00,000 + $300 USD GCP credits

This isn't a weekend-long endurance test. DeployFest is a focused, high-intensity sprint designed to test your ability to architect, build, and ship a production-ready solution in just 7 hours.

Why DeployFest Is Different

No Pre-Building. Period.

Most hackathons have a grey area around preparation. DeployFest eliminates ambiguity: the problem statement is revealed at the event. You walk in at 9 AM not knowing what you'll build. By 5 PM, you need a deployed solution.

This creates a true level playing field. No team has a head start. Every minute counts, and every architectural decision is visible to mentors and judges.

Strict GCP Deployment Requirement

Your project must be deployed on Google Cloud Platform. Not localhost. Not Heroku. Not Vercel. GCP or nothing. Every project must also include at least one GCP-specific feature — whether it's Cloud Run, Vertex AI, BigQuery, or any other Google Cloud service.

This forces developers to go beyond their comfort zone and learn production-grade cloud deployment under time pressure. It's the closest most developers get to a real sprint-to-production experience outside of their day jobs.

3-Minute Rapid Pitches

At 5:30 PM, every team gets exactly 3 minutes to pitch their solution. No deck of 50 slides. No 20-minute walkthroughs. Just 3 minutes to explain: what problem you solved, how you built it, and why it matters.

This pitch format rewards clarity and communication as much as technical skill. Some of the best-built projects lose because the team can't articulate their value proposition in 180 seconds.

The Full Schedule

The event day follows a structured format designed to maximize building time while ensuring professional delivery:

09:00 AM — Check-in & Breakfast Arrive at Deutsche Bank, Electronic City. Pick up your credentials, meet your teammates, set up your workspace. Breakfast is provided — fuel up, because the next 11 hours will be intense.

09:30 AM — Keynote & Problem Statement Reveal The organizing team delivers a brief keynote covering event rules, evaluation criteria, and available resources. Then the moment everyone is waiting for: the problem statement reveal. This is when the clock starts ticking.

10:00 AM — The Sprint Begins Teams have from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM — a 7-hour window — to design, build, and deploy their solution. Mentors are available throughout. Food is provided. Outside food and delivery orders are not permitted.

01:00 PM — Working Lunch Lunch is provided at your workspace. Most teams eat while coding. This isn't a social break — it's a strategic refueling stop.

05:00 PM — Strict Code Freeze All coding stops at 5:00 PM sharp. No exceptions. If it's not committed and deployed by now, it doesn't count. This deadline is enforced: judges only evaluate what's live on GCP at code freeze.

05:30 PM — Rapid Pitches (3 Minutes Per Team) Each team presents their solution to the judging panel. The format is strict: 3 minutes maximum, live demo preferred. Judges ask brief follow-up questions after each pitch.

07:30 PM — Winners Announced The judging panel deliberates and announces the top three teams. Prizes, certificates, and community recognition follow.

Prizes and Incentives

DeployFest offers rewards beyond cash:

Prize Pool: ₹1,00,000 + $300 USD GCP credits Distributed among the top 3 winning teams, with tech awards and recognition.

$50 Google Cloud Credits Every shortlisted participant receives $50 in Google Cloud credits. This isn't just for the hackathon — use it after the event to continue building and learning on GCP.

Community Swag Official GDG kits, stickers, and merchandise for all participants.

Network and Reputation DeployFest alumni have gone on to become Google Developer Experts, receive speaking invitations at GDG events, and land interviews at top tech companies. The reputation you build in a single day can pay dividends for years.

How Applications Work

DeployFest is not first-come-first-served. Applications are reviewed by the organizing team, and spots are limited.

The Application Process

1. Submit your application at [deployfest.dev/apply/participant](/apply/participant) by May 13, 2026 2. Application review — the organizing team evaluates technical depth, GCP familiarity, and team composition 3. Shortlist notification — accepted participants are notified by email by May 15 4. Final confirmation — confirm your attendance by May 16

What Makes a Strong Application

Your application is evaluated on several factors:

  • **Technical depth** — your "Path to Production" answer is the most important field. Be specific about your tech stack, architecture decisions, and GCP services you'd use
  • **GCP experience** — prior experience with Google Cloud services is a strong signal, but not mandatory. If you're new to GCP, mention equivalent experience on other cloud platforms
  • **AI readiness** — your plan for incorporating GenAI, Gemini, or agentic workflows
  • **Team composition** — teams of 4 with diverse skills (frontend, backend, cloud, and AI) are preferred

Important: Team Name Coordination

When registering, you must enter a team name. This is case-sensitive. All 4 members of your team must enter the exact same team name. Coordinate with your teammates before typing.

How to Prepare

Technical Preparation (2 Weeks Before)

1. Set up Google Cloud CLI — Install `gcloud`, authenticate, and create a project 2. Deploy a sample app to Cloud Run — Practice the full deploy cycle at least once 3. Explore Vertex AI — Try the Gemini API via AI Studio or the Vertex AI SDK 4. Pick your stack — Decide on your frontend (React/Next.js), backend (Node.js/Python/Go), and database (Firestore/Cloud SQL) before the event 5. Set up your dev environment — IDE, extensions, Docker, and all dependencies should be ready to go

Logistics Preparation (Day Before)

  • **Charge everything** — laptop, phone, portable charger
  • **Prepare your bag** — laptop, charger, water bottle, headphones
  • **Check the venue route** — Deutsche Bank, Electronic City Phase I (plan for Bengaluru traffic)
  • **Sleep well** — you need energy, not coffee, to perform at your best
  • **Review GCP docs** — bookmark the Cloud Run, Vertex AI, and Gemini API quickstarts

Mental Preparation

  • **Accept imperfection** — your hackathon project will not be production-perfect. That's fine. Ship what you can.
  • **Plan for constraints** — you will hit bugs, API limits, and integration issues. Budget time for debugging.
  • **Focus on deployment** — a deployed MVP beats an unfinished masterpiece. Get something live by hour 3.
  • **Practice your pitch** — even if the problem statement isn't revealed yet, practice explaining complex technical ideas in 3 minutes.

What to Bring

**Must-haves:**

  • Laptop with full charge
  • Charger and power cable
  • Government-issued ID for check-in
  • Water bottle

**Nice-to-haves:**

  • External mouse and keyboard
  • Portable monitor (if you work with dual screens)
  • Headphones for focused work
  • Notebook for whiteboarding ideas

**Not allowed:**

  • Outside food or delivery orders (food is provided)
  • Pre-built project code (scaffolding tools like `create-next-app` are fine)

Code of Conduct

DeployFest maintains a strict code of conduct. All participants must:

  • Be respectful and considerate in language and actions
  • Welcome participants from all backgrounds and skill levels
  • Give constructive feedback during collaboration
  • Respect event staff, volunteers, mentors, and venue rules

Harassment, discrimination, intimidation, and hate speech are prohibited. Organizers may warn, remove, or disqualify participants for violations.
